RHC Virtual Panel Discussion on The RWE Revolution

The RWE Revolution: How Canadians Can Benefit from a New Era of Health Data

On June 19th, the RHC hosted a webinar on why harnessing the power of RWE for Canadians is so important - and how new partnerships, programs and investments are needed to maximize its potential. The panel of RWE experts from academia, industry, government and a patient group showcased the key hurdles hindering the uptake of RWE as well as solutions for a future state where RWE is effectively implemented in Canada.

From the discussion, the group agreed that one of the most critical challenges limiting Canada’s RWE landscape is the need for a better understanding of how the benefits of sharing data for informed health decision making outweighs the risks, as there is currently a lot of apprehension around transparent sharing of health data. Stakeholders also called out the need for two-way flow of access to health data and better articulation of how it is being used to ensure buy-in from Canadians. A key solution to address this is through stronger partnerships between public systems, industry and patients, so that coordinated efforts can be made to capture the full value of RWE.
