Our Asks

What is a resilient healthcare system?

A resilient healthcare system delivers better care earlier, more efficiently and more effectively. Resilient healthcare systems are patient-centred and patient-led; built on a world-class life sciences ecosystem; powered by optimized health data; and focused on accelerating and expanding access to innovative technologies.

Access to care means access to diagnosis, treatment and research, all made possible through quality data.

Putting RHC’s Asks into Action: How Canada can move towards resilient healthcare systems

Our Policy Recommendations

    • ACTION: Strengthen and expand CADTH’s proposed time-limited reimbursement framework and ensure that promising drugs identified through Project Orbis receive accelerated HTA review.

    • ACTION: Create a pan-Canadian personalized healthcare protocol to expand, advance and better leverage diagnostic testing.

    • ACTION: Dedicate targeted funding and support to help healthcare systems adopt novel and innovative medical technologies.

    • ACTION: Increase investments in health research – including clinical trials – to leverage our world-class health research ecosystem, spur commercialization, and improve and update clinical practice.

    • ACTION: Create new lab and incubator space to attract and bring together researchers, universities and colleges, industry, non-profit organizations, and a new generation of startups.

    • ACTION: Quickly, inclusively, and effectively implement the pan-Canadian Health Data Strategy (pCHDS) to improve coordination, integration, and patient access to healthcare data.

    • ACTION: Apply Canada's talents in AI and data science to support data-enabled learning health systems.

    • ACTION: Develop a consensus framework and platform for the collection of real-world evidence (RWE) to expand and accelerate Value-Based Health Care (VBHC).

    • ACTION: Meaningfully involve health charities and patient organizations in the development and implementation of key pan-Canadian policies including the Biomanufacturing and Life Sciences Strategy, Rare Disease Strategy, National Pharmacare, and the pan-Canadian Health Data Strategy.

    • ACTION: Offer health charities and patient organizations access to expert committees that are advising and providing input to federal ministries and pan-Canadian agencies, following the lead of countries like the UK, Australia, and the US.
